Post-Production

We are trying to create meanings with different angles, camera movements, Sound, and also with lighting.

Technology:

We used different apps like clip champ and We video to help create our branding and edit our videos

The experience was rough in the beginning because we were trying to use apps we were unfamiliar with, then we found different apps were familiar with and it helped make it easier.

I learned a new trick about editing with the software that we were using.

Conventions that we followed from Our movie:

We got a lot of help from the film that we studied Unhinged. We followed convention by making the title of our film "HIT LIST" red, this was also done by Unhinged.

We also followed conventions by using similar shots as Unhinged like when he took pills to signify that he was on medication, we did that as well

Effects:

For our lighting, we decided to go with black and white to signify life and death, that someone will be dying later in the opening scene

Sound:

We are planning to add suspenseful music to our opening since there is no dialogue. We want the music to help boost our film.

Film Shooting

                   Shooting our opening scene

So we first started with the easiest scenes which is the hallway. We had to reshoot some of the scenes where with the two cast are in the that scene: Malik and Benjamin(me). We had to do a whole lot of reshoots particually with that scene in general. Also we had to redo one shot due to the main character, Malik, not wearing the same pants. We were able to get some help with Ms. Gardfield who plays as the guidance concoler who is by the way an actual guidance consoler. We also had Ms. Landis help us with the scene in the classroom with the camera work and the sound effects. We decided that we're going to use Kayhanah's phone because it has the the best camera qualities. We learned lots of useful information about lighting that we had to use, reviewing our old notes on different types of shots, and going through videos that help us with the opening scene that we needed. We didn't need to know any tools about the camera technology since it all was from a phone.

Storyboard

                      Storyboard research

The title for our opening scene is called paranoia

Location: The location of this opening scene is going to be mostly at Coconut Creek Highschool. The reason for this is because this will be an easeir way for all of us to able to film this.

The cast: The cast for this film is going to be: Malik Dillard, Travis Brown, and Benjamin Duverna. Possible cast is Sheryl Garfield as the Guidance Consoler. I think it would take a couple of weeks to prepare all the cameramen, editors and actors to shoot this scene.

The film: The film will be a black comedy mystery film low lighting, establishing shots, POV shots, and use dark music drewry music. We will do this by using cameras provided by my teacher or we'll use our phones. Some of our shots compose of this:

Sound: For dialogue, we'll just record the dialogue as we record them in the film specking to each other. For music, we will use a editing software to edit each shot to put music of our chose to the scene. We will use an editing software that would be able to seperate the noises that we want to remove from our opening scene.

Storyboard: For the storyboard, we're going to draw the shots and put them on our storyboard so that we could have an idea on what shot we should do. All of our shots will be based off of our script that we wrote.

Shooting schedule: For filming: it would be aroudn Febuary 21-March 4.

The technology: The technology that we'll be using is our phones or camera's provided by our teacher: Ms. Lanids.

Funding production

  Mystery:

A mystery Film is designed to shock the reader, and they do this by not revealing the killer so early on. Mystery movies are supposed to make people tense while they are watching it. And one of the best ways to use it is by using the twist-ending.

Shot angles that Mystery's use:

They use certain angles to convey fear or other emotions into the audience. They use tilted shots to make the audience feel uneasy. The Dutch tilt is used to give the audience a sense of psychological unease. Dolly zooms is zooming in with the lens while physically moving the camera away, this result is a distortive perspective that almost induces a sense of nausea into the viewer.

Imagination:

They want to captivate the audience's attention and let their imagination run. What I mean by this is that, imagination can frequently be more frightening than anything that appears on screen. So why not employ that with the victim? Mystery movies make it a point to show the body to the audience, often in gory detail. For a subversion, keep the body hidden. Certainly, have characters talk about the victim, or even a few shots of the surrounding area or the extremities. But don’t linger on the corpse. Let the audience picture the violence for themselves. In theory, it will keep them invested and make them more susceptible to later horror.

History:

Most people credit Edgar Allen Poe with inventing the modern mystery. He published a short story called " The murders in the Rue Morgue in 1841" that featured Auguste C. Dupin, literature’s first fictional detective. It was a groundbreaking moment that saw the creation of an entirely new literary genre.

Production Companies:

Netflix:

Netflix is the biggest streaming platform in the world. In 2021 they were able to acquire nearly 7.7 billion dollars, They have around 207 million people subscribed to them today.

Warner bros:

Warner Bros was created on April 4th 1923, and since then it has submitted itself as one of the greatest Film producing companies. Warner bros makes up to 663 million dollars a year. Warner bros also has multiple companies that branch off into different parts of movies, such as animation etc.

T-street:

T-street is a relatively new company, and the movie has only just recently grossed its highest movie, Knives out it just grossed 311.4 millions.

Out of these 3 films the best for us to use will have to be Netflix. This is because the revenue Netflix is able to acquire yearly and it would help us out with our budget for the film, and also because of the number of people who will watch it if we put it on Netflix.

Script Research

                                        What is a script

A script is a document that is composed with the dialogue, setting, character, and directions on what to do in a movie, TV, play and etc. The point of a script is to show are like the instruction for making a film. For creating a script for a film, it will be a screen play and for TV it will usually be called a teleplay. Sometimes these professionals uncover new insight about the material that the original screenwriter may have never imagined during the scriptwriting process. While a great script forms the foundation of a great performance, it is not the only factor in the artistic process.

How to write a script

Since you know what a script is, now it's time how to write a script. First what you need to do is to write your logline. A logline is a sentence where it answers the question: "What is my story about"? It should have the plots major dramatic question. This logline can be revised as you work towards a final draft of your screenplay, but it’s a helpful guiding light as you get deeper into the writing process. Next is to create the outline for the script. Start it by creating an outline so that you can write down the main important details in your script in order. You could do this the traditional way on pages or you could just write the sentences on a index card. Your sole question should be the main thing that should change the plotline of the story. Next step is to build a treatment. Think of the the treatment as the better or leveled up version of the outline that feels more like a short story. Then it's the screen play. This is after your good with your treatment and where the real work starts. This is also were you get to express and let your ideas grow. Then you have to format your script. There are tons of script template to find online and plenty of software to download so that you could start your screen play. Usually professional screenwriters uses a final draft. Finally is to edit your screenplay. When you return to your script, act like this is the first time that you're actually reading and think: "How would you respond to it?" Look at it as a story and see were are it's flaws and what could stay. Mark all the problems so that you could fix it. Here are six terms that a screenwriter should know from a website: Masterclass.
  1. Scene heading: Also known as a slug line, a scene heading appears at the top of each new scene and includes the following information: “EXT.” or “INT.” (abbreviations for “exterior” and “interior”), the location, and the time of day. For example: “INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE - NIGHT”

  1. Action line: Action lines describe what a character is doing in a scene.

  1. Parenthetical: A parenthetical is a small direction included before a character’s line that suggests how the line should be delivered.

  1. Transition: “FADE IN” precedes the very first line of your script. “FADE OUT” marks the end. Other transitions, like “DISSOLVE TO” or “MATCH CUT TO,” may be used throughout your script.

  1. Voiceover: Abbreviated to “V.O.,” voiceover is used when an unseen narrator interjects into the scene.

  1. Camera angle: Though typically avoided by writers, camera angles can be noted in a screenplay if they’re essential to the way a scene unfolds, perhaps enabling the delivery of a joke or big reveal.

The old vs the new

Times have changed and script writing has really evolved. So we're going to travel through the past and present on how a script was made and used. It started in the year 1902 for the movie: "A trip to the moon". It was similar to scripts now a days. But they used something called a scenarios, which is basicly a summary of the most important parts of the plot. As time went on since the 1900's, it has been geting closer to what we have today. There's a statement from an article, "Golden script." it says, : "Today, Final Draft is the standard program for screenwriting. However, because of its price, beginner screenwriters will look to free screenwriting programs such as CeltX or WriterDuet as a temporary solution."

What I've learned

What I've learned from this research what is a script and what it does in and for a film. It also learned how to create my own script and how script writing began and how it's doing now. To show what I've learned, I'll show you my script:

My opening scene

                           My opening scene

Mise en Scene
Lighting: The lighting for crime films is mostly naturalistic. Usually low key lighting.
Character: The hero is usually a super smart private detective or persistent policemen. There is normally
a very mysterious villain whose face is rarely seen and whose identity is only revealed at the end of the
film
Props: Murder outline; magnifying glass; police tape; police uniform; murder weapon; cars; torch;
glasses; guns;, blood; evidence.
Narrative Structure
Most Mystery films follow a common structure. The Hero is going about their day to day life. Then a
crime is committed or someone is found dead. The hero either hears about the crime or is approached
by a source and sets off to solve the mystery. The hero will then go out of his/her way to catch the
criminal. A few more people then die as the film progresses. The villain normally makes slight mistakes
that the Hero picks up on. The criminal is always caught.
Cinematography
Close up shots are used to show peoples fear when they discover a dead body or their anger when their
most prized possession has been stolen.
High and low angles to either show a potential murder victim as vulnerable and weak or to show the
killer as strong and in control.
Setting
They can be set in countryside towns with a low population and miles away from a city.
hospitals, docks, lakes, fields.
Good settings for mystery films can be: police stations, big cities forests, city streets, forensic labs,
Sound
Fast paced music is used when the Hero is chasing a suspect. This creates tension as the audience
doesn't know if he will get away or not.
Audience
Usually for people who loves a challenge; determine who is the murder in the film

Shot by shot analysis

                              Black Panther

The scene starts dark as a young T'chala ask about the story of Wakanda and wants his father to explain it to him. His father narrates about the story about Wakanda. He states that a meteor containing great power crash landed on Wakanda. It created life around it and five tribes settled on it until war raged on between the tribes. The tribes were at constant war with each other. Until one warrior had a vision of the of the Panther goddess who lead him to the heart and shaped flowers that granted him super human abilities. After that he then became the king and the first Black Panther. The tribes agreed to follow the Black Panther (except for the Jabarie tribe) and used the vibrainium to create technology that's far more advanced. But as Wakanda was be successful, the world was going into chaos. So they created a barrier to hide them self from the outside world. Then as the world spins around, it then zooms into as what the world looks like now. This opening scene is only one shot with tones of pan and tons of birds eye views of people and objects. Some of the props are some spears and the flower that they collected. The clothes that they were wearing had some African ascetics to them like if they were in the B.C. since this did happened far in the in time. The lighting will shift through back lighting, key lighting, and fill lighting. The sound is the father telling the story while in the background, their music playing which has this African music to it.
